I'm going to canyon lake for a week to see my grandma and she lives about a block from boat ramp 7. I have a little bass raider with a 2 HP eveinrude. What bait should I use to catch alot eater channel cats? What structure should I fish in canyon lake? Any help on canyon lake catfishing will be appreciated

That boat ramp 7 is right on the tip of that penisula and it is totally unprotected from the wind. The wind may be the least of your problems though because of the jet skiers and pleasure boaters in that part of the lake. If you have a way to transport that small bass raider I would suggest you launch at boat ramp 6 which is in the same subdivision just on the opposite side of boat ramp 7 on the same penisula. The wind shouldn't bother you there as much and you can go to the right after you launch and get into the trees near the back of Tom Creek cove and there are some really good spots to fish for cats. Shrimp, chicken livers, and minnows as well as some of the stink baits. I've used Big marv's with a #6 trebble hook and place a large split shot just up about 14" from the hook and fish it straight down off the side of your boat. Let out line until it hits the bottom and then reel up about 1 turn of the reel handle. No need to cast. It takes a few minutes to get the stink into the water and then the catching usually starts pretty quick.
Just for safeties sake, wear your PFD at all times and don't try to launch at 7 or any launch and try to cross the open water in that small craft. It's not worth the risk and if the wind comes up which it usually does this time of year, you could get into trouble. Be safe, hope this helps!
Just one more cast!

You might see the new fire rescue boat on the lake. Don't want to see it from inside. Make it a safe trip. good luck.
