Fished between 9pm to midnight last night. wanted to go roberson park, but could not find an open access. So, tried another spot. All my 11 bluegills stayed strong in 5gal bucket with bubble generator in it. That was cool.
with the weight of sinker and blue gill, i could not cast far. Maybe 30 yards the most. if i swing harder, bait came off the hook.
Anyway, i didn't get a single bite. That was kinda expected for the following reasons.
1) it's my first trying 2) wind blew against my back 3) i could not cast far enough 4) maybe tough time for flathead 5) did not fish long enough 6) Or simply i didn't know what the hack i was doing.
I think i need to study more. that's my report.

Never fished Hubbard before, but from my experience, you don't have to cast too far out for flatheads at night. Almost all of the flatheads I caught were in about 3-6 ft of water maybe 5-20 feet away from the bank.

Robertson park was bought by city of Rowlett and is sadly gonna be turned into hotels , restraunts and houses it looks like. All the areas fenced off are gonna be used for "development" . Good report, I agree as mentioned above that there is no need to cast out long ways for flathead fishing. I prefer fishin for flats during the Spring pre spawn because the fish are real active in this time.

Depending on the type of bank your fishing is how far I fish out...often I fish no further that 20ft from the bank at night. Daytime fishing your best bet is to fish structure like boulders, bridge pilings, bank overhangs and dense brush. Live perch is great bug I've had equal luck with large cut baits as well. Use as light of weight as possible and set your drags loose.

thanks for the direction guys. Dave, does that mean, robertson won't be accessible from the bank going forward? hmm... disappointed... I guess dfw is doing great in growth, but that also create some side effects as well... more opportunities for business people, but less opportunities for bank fishermen..
btw, ur reputation precede you Dave. i did a lot of googling for cat fishing in DFW. That led me to hubard/lavon catfishing forum. i scanned a lot of posts... And many of them are yours with photos of big cat fish, both blue and flathead. I enjoyed reading your reports and other guys. i also noticed, at some point people stopped posting in hubard forum, what's going on over there?
I may have to go to lavon forum to get some wisdom from you guys.

Dunkky dude, a lot of good info on these forums. Good to use the search engine to look back on topics, gear, weather conditions , time of year, etc. I learned a lot from these pages. Think my first google search when I got a computer was " circle hooks " and it took me to catfish1 site. Not sure what happened over on Hubbard forum, noticed it has been slow for awhile now. Still lotsa good info there, just may have to search back. Definitely agree it is becoming tougher for the bank fisherman. Seems like we lose more and more spots every year. Kinda saddening really.......
