Does anyone have data of GPS processing speed of these two units?

I have an Elite 7 HDI on TM and not real happy with GPS refresh speed.

Helix 7 should have better gps performance. Helix 7 also has a updated processor which should help with refresh rates on a map.

The Elite 7 hdi GPS function is almost useless with the Navionics map cards. The GPS refresh rate is very slow. On the other hand the sonar is excellent. I've moved my HDI to the bow where the slow GPS is acceptable at trolling motor speeds. Not familiar with the Helix but if it has a faster processor it should be better for the helm. The problems with the Elite HDI is caused by the slow processor.

I have a HB 1198 on the console and a ELITE 7 HDI on TM.

I am not satisfied with the processing speed of the 7 HDI. I am trying to determine if the processing speed of the HELIX is closer to the speed of the 1198 and DI close or better than the Elite 7 HDI.

Thanks

Helix 7 has faster processing speed a lot faster and fast with a map chip too, only thing about the helix is the depth and temp etc gets in the way of the screen on the left, hard to put all 4 on the screen, I don't know if you can change that where depth and temp etc displays on the bottom or wherever, and also helix is bright bright screen, way brighter than hdi, hdi you can't see very good in the sun.

No, you cannot change the location of the digital read outs on that model.

Lowrance should never have even put out the Elite 7 for sale. I don't know how they could sell that and expect to keep customers. I for one will be switching to Humminbirds when my Lowrance craps out, which shouldn't be long, from all the info I've heard on them.

With the SI model you can turn off the left side readouts in the full screen SI view ONLY. That will have depth and temp overlayed at the lower left like this:

Helix 12 CHIRP MEGA SI+ GPS G3N and G4N, 1198c SI, SOLIX 10 SI G3,
Helix 8 MEGA SI+ GPS G4N, SOLIX 12 SI and G3, MEGA 360, MEGA LIVE TL, RC-1

Humminbird Helix is a fantastic unit. Humminbird will be introducing in the very near future the Helix 9" 10" and 12" which will have all the preset buttons you come to love on the core series and they will be net-workable. More to come as the information is available.....

I have an Elite 7 networked via NMEA 2000 to my gen3 touch. This way, I can create a waypoint on the dash while searching and come back to it on the trollingmotor. The helix 7 is not networkable. You will have to wait on the Helix 9 and up to get eithernet networking. Also, the Elite 7 offers CHIRP on the sonar -- if the transducer supports it. Most transducer will support some portion of the CHIRP. Even my older US on the MinnKota support medium and low CHIRP.
Let me know if I can help.
John

That's interesting. I didn't know that you could network an Elite and a HDS gen3.

It requires the Lowrance Network Starter Kit Model: 124-69 to link....
