So tuesday morning I woke up to a pic on fb that adrian (yakfinatic) posted asking me if i sold my raptor sit inside. I had not. I went to work same as usual. About mid morning I started to think...that was my kayak...not my yard. I asked him where the pic was taken. He said it was an add on a new app he had just opened. At this point im totally freaking out. Now I know its my yak. They had it posted for sale for $200!!! Adrian replied to the add but got no responce. As my work day went on I continued to freak out about my stolen yak. I called the police, at first no help at all. So now I figure I have to go get my yak myself. After a few friends calm me down enough to reason with me I call the police again. This time they went to work trying to figure out who had it. Since adrian replied to the add we waited for a responce. Next message they sent is the location of my yak!!! I get in my company work truck with goose neck trailer and start driving towards the house that had it. On my way I call the police and say im going to go get my kayak and if they dont want a bunch of dead bodies they had better get to that house. I had in mind driving that truck right through the front door. The police say "we need a plan" I had no plan other than, well pure carnage. The police have a couple unmarked cars now watching my yak...im satisfied so we meet at the police station. Adrian came so far to meet in denton. Showed the police what he had and even scheduled a meet with the scum to buy my yak. After some proof that it really is my kayak they saddle up and we all go towards the house where my yak was stashed. We waited at a nearby restaurant for the police to come back with my kayak. SUCCESSFUL! !! They ask me for the mso#...well this yak is several years old and I didnt have that. Yikes. The police knew it was mine, they saw a ton of fb pics with the kayak and since there is only one of this particular kayak in the metroplex. I still didnt have the number to I.d. the hull. My kayak is still in the police station now. Its locked up safe. I know I will get it back soon but I would have it back now if I had that number. Lesson learned. Take pics of the mso#. Its worth the few seconds it takes. Thanks to the denton police and most of all Adrian. Its rare to find people that are so willing to go out of their way to help others. Adrian did. Im proud to call him friend. Thank you. Learn from my mistakes and make sure you can I.d. your yak.

I hate thieves!
You can bet they were driving around just to see what they can steal and probably saw your kayak while you were loading or unloading from a fishing trip, marked your house and came back later to steal what they could.
I see them all the time driving around my neighborhood.
Be warned, there are people driving around all day because that is what they do. They may not be the thieves, but they give the information to the thieves.
Being retired I have the opportunity to observe, and I can tell you for a fact this is what they do.

Just one more cast!

True, Jimbo. I saw some Hispanic "lawn people" cruising the alley behind my house before 7:00 a.m. the other day...no reason for them to be there ever, but especially that time of day.

Glad to hear you got ol'yeller back Christian. Nothing's worse than those finding a easy fix for income. Great ending to a not so great situation.

Lesson learned here is keep those MSO's in a strong box.
You only need them for two things in Texas.
1 - to register the yak if you motorize it
2 - to show proof of ownership

Really, really glad you got it back !

Just for grins, go to that app (and to craigslist) and do a search for the phone number that was on the ad and it will bring up anything else they have listed with that phone number. I do that before I buy anything on craigslist and it often provides a little new information and some entertainment.

The dealer should be able to get you a digital copy of the MSO in a heartbeat. I lost mine and had to get one from Hobie just a few months ago when I sold a PA.

I now take a digital photo of my mso paperwork, title if there is one and of the etchings on the hull which also include some very obscure marking not visible from exterior that I add. I use my dl on the interior. the police will never argue the presence of your dl#.

Great that you got it back !

I did have marks on the yak. There were several holes filled etc. I also had some mods made. All that helped but didnt instantly get my boat back. The mso is what the cops and judges need.
