Brand new charger 460PC, worked 4 times, then one bank went dead.

MK is charging me for a replacement, then refunding me when they get this other back.

Has this happened to anyone else?

What is the indication that a bank went dead. Are there LEDs or something on the unit that tell you? I just ordered the alternator version of the MK charger because I'm going from a 12V to a 24V TM. I'm holding out on the AC version for a while until I can do some research on them.

Yeah the lights on one bank just went out, and consequently so did my cranking battery... while I was floating. Had to move batteries around to get the motor started. hammer

I read about this happening to folks AFTER I bought it.

I installed an on/off battery switch between my starting battery and the TM battery just for emergency starting.

I guess i'm confused. If you were floating, there should be nothing happening on that charger, it's a 115V input. I would like some more details because I'm looking at one of those but not if they are problematic.

To divert juice FROM your trolling batteries to the cranking battery if and when needed?

Yes, it just puts the batteries in parallel for hard starting.

I noticed the bank was out after returning and plugging the boat in to power. And the bank that was out .... was run to my cranking battery smile

I've had them on 5 different boats and had that happen once on a 4 bank unit. I took it to my dealer and they swapped it out in 1 day, no charges.

I thought about going back to bass pro shop who installed it, but they did a sort of sloppy job. I called another authorized dealer, and they told me I would have to deal with minnkota directly and then pay them to swap it.

I think I can swap it in my driveway. I should be able to leave all the wiring in place and just unscrew the terminal leads from the charger, pull the screws and R&R

The leads are bonded to the charger. You will have to remove the leads from the batteries, not the charger. The charger comes out with all the wiring.
Another note, depending on the charger, if the battery cannot or will not take a charge after a preset time, the bank goes off. I would transfer that bank to another battery (swapping banks) and see what happens before condemning the charger.

Pull it out and replace it yourself. If BPS did a sloppy job, here is your chance to make it look nice. Tie-wrap are your best friend.

Yes, I had the same thing happen. Got it switched out and all is well!
