I'm getting more "serious" about fishing for bream than I have in the past. I've always used light tackle or cane pole and a piece of nightcrawler whenever I decide to target them. I understand crickets are the best bait though. I haven't seen a good source for crickets to use as bait but would like to find one. I've recently invested in a couple of ultralight rigs to use specifically for bream fishing. I've been using redworms lately, but haven't had the kind of luck you'd expect from them.
Aside from what your favorite bait might be, what do y'all normally end up catching them on?

LMAO...it's all good Garvin. I'm still a beginner when it comes to gill fishing. Watching the post from Smithhaven, Banker, WacoKid and a few others got me really into em now! I normally do best when using wax worms(waxies)...for some reason gills can't resist em! Most folks have lots of luck using crickets but when I tried em out they didnt produce like I thought. The gills would hit it one time and take my entire cricket off! Maybe it was the way I had it hooked or hook size, who knows! Get some waxies and get ready for some real deal fun!

Katchin krappie...doin surgeries(filleting)...and givin hott grease baths until krunchy and golden brown is what it's all about!!!

For me Worms is the best bait! Texas rig em and pitch or cast to spots that look like they are holding fish. Size 6 cricket hooks with a size 5 shot rigged on an ultra light! You are good to go. fish

meal or wax worms (found at Petsmart) are irresistible to em

Petsmart also has crickets, cost more than at a bait store of course.
Try using only about a third a night crawler on your hook. I assure you it is good bait for any sunfish. Wax and meal worms may be just as good. I haven't used them, so I don't know.
