I was going through some old boxes and found 2, 9 1/2 inch Arbogast AC plugs. If I remember right they are kind of sub surface lures. You think these would work similar to the new slider swim baits types?

9 1/2" plugs !! WOW, your going to have to ask Doug R or Mark Perry on here, or some others on here that use swim baits a lot.
That's a huge plug, isn't it?

I've caught a bunch of big Lake Fork bass on those plugs in the fall.

I have two. They also catch fish.

I still throw the A/C plugs during the late spring on overcast days. They eliminate the smaller fish.

I was going through some old boxes and found 2, 9 1/2 inch Arbogast AC plugs. If I remember right they are kind of sub surface lures. You think these would work similar to the new slider swim baits types? Similar but not the same. The AC plug floats at rest and dives to about 3-5 feet with a slow rolling side to side wobble. It was very effective on Fork in the late 80's in the fall and winter when the bass were feeding on big gizzard shad. I fished with Brian Duplechain 2 days after he caught a 14.25 on one in Big Mustang. It was on Jan 8, 1988. We had 12 fish on AC plugs that morning with my boss's big one of 9.25 lbs. I remember the day well. We saw a huge swirl and a giant gizzard shad came to the surface wounded. We all threw at the commotion and my boss hooked up with the 9.25. After we netted his fish I netted the shad and measured it. It was 15" long and weighed over a pound! The new slider style swimbaits have action that is much more lifelike than the old Arbogast AC plugs. I still have a whole box of AC Plugs if you want them.

Being an engineer in a machine shop, we used to make the dang things out of broom handles, no kidding. heavy duty screen door latche parts were used to connect the jointed plug.. They were fun and easy to make, we never caught any real giants on them. I remember making them all the way up to about 1999.. Then everyone just quit using them, I guess LMBV caused that, they were fun as heck, just like Ken described it...

Man, the good old days, I have had 3,bought all 3 came from Linda at Starmart when she first got them, funny story me and my partner were in there and she had just unboxed them and asked us what those were going for everywhere else, I told her Smitty's had them for 3.99, she just glared at me and said 'No they ain't, I know Jimmy". So we got ready to check out she gave me my coke but charged me 85.00 for the AC plugs Only one is left and it is retired, can't remember what happened to one of them but the other one, a fish took and yes it was in Mustang up around the bend at night

The good old days... Linda from Star Mart is a nice lady. She is part of what made coming to Lake Fork special. I would always stop in and say hello. Knowing her and her husband Paul got me out of a speeding ticket on 515 one night.

Not my thing, I have turned into a modern day progressive fisherman. I am headed to Fork tomorrow and have 2 dropshots and 2 shaky heads tied on!!  I think I have one AC Plug I got in maybe 89' or so, not really sure where it is these days though...
