Ok, so I usually fish for catfish, but about a month ago I saw a HUGE fish swimming along the top of the water along the bank. At first I didn't know what it could be, I knew it couldn't be a catfish because it looked like a grass carp, I also fish in a small pond so there could only be a few other species. I know now that is a grass carp just by observing it. So I looked up tips on catching carp, and I headed out to the pond. At first I tried night crawlers, no bites. Then I tried this prepared strawberry bait I found at walmart, no bites. Then i tried bread balls, no bites. I even tried small tomatoes, cut bait (bluegill) celery, broccoli, and still, NOTHING! What am I doing wrong? I walk quiet on the bank, I don't talk loudly, and yet I still get nothing!? This is the carp forum, so i'm hoping for some reliable answers. Thanks.

I personally find that grass carp like very fruity baits. For instance, i make a packbait consisting of quick/old fashioned oatmeal and a can of fruit cocktail when i target grassers. What kind of hook and presentation are you using? you might want to look into a standard hair rig (can google how to make one if you dont know how) and use canned corn with flavored with a fruity coolaid or something like that.

Grassies will hit a cricket or hopper on top. You need to wait until you find it feeding because you will never make it eat. Dont worry though, they eat constantly

Also you arent going to want to be using a log of wait/use a slip rig. You don't want your weight to drag everything down under the mud. in a small pond like this i would free line or use a small sliding weight. Sweet corn on a tiny hook will be the best unless you want to tie your own hair rigs.
