Well all the vibrio talk has me shopping for a new pair of waders for my trip to Port Aransas next week since I got freekin mauled by chiggers last week! I have an old pair of neoprene Magellans that have done me well for several years, but since I don't want a heat stroke I was going to get some that are more breathable but still water tight. My buddy suggested Gulf Coast Waders...they look good but wandering if anyone has tried them or had any other suggestions. Preferably below $150. Any tips on good cheaper wading shoes or boots are welcomed as well!

It's scary stuff for sure but from what "they" say if you scrub down with peroxide after a wade that should take care of the nasties.

You can get surgical scrub brushes off amazon for about 20 bucks that will kill everything and you can be sure to get nooks and crannies and any little cuts on your feet.

I prefer the Magellan Khaki wade fishing pants rather than wade fishing in shorts - no jelly fish stings

Old shimano wading boots finally wore out this year, bought the Academy Magellan tan wading boots, front zipper, so far comfortable and holding up to about 100 hours of wading mostly grass and sand. $30, so we'll see if they'll last as long as the last pair.

Suggestion of concerned about vibrio, apply Vaseline, neosporin, etc type ointment to chigger bites right before wet wading. It'll water proof for the most part any open scratch, etc for a long time.

To be honest, those with compromised immune systems, have diabetes, etc should really be worried. If palnning on fishing back bays in stagnant waters, then you might be needing to rinse off, scrub, etc.

If you are determined to to wear waders get the cheapest Academy breathables and keep the receipt. You will be warmer than wet wading but you just don't want to fish in neo's in July/August. Receipt is for if they leak, etc. Academy's house brand quality has dropped a bunch and it's not unusual to buy something and find it not complete, fully functional, falls apart right away, etc.

I am reading this and it sounds like ya'll know what it takes to protected yourselves against this vibrio business. I am prepared to get stung, poked, sunburned, overheated & maybe a shark or turtle steal my stringer full(how ever full that is) once in a while, but flesh eatin bacteria makes me want to fish from the bleachers. My nephew says he won't wear waders. Is it only back bays & in shallows?
