He had tons of fun reeling it in, thought it was huge crappie up until he got it close to the bank, once i realized it was a gar we decided to bring it in by grabbing the line instead, make sure his rod didn't snap. Would've kept it for dinner if i knew it was allowed, but i figured he was too small and we released him carefully.

That's pretty cool. First fish? I bet he will be reluctant to lip a bass or blue gill or crappie after seeing all them teeth. let him know they don't all have teeth like that lol. Tell him nice catch from us!

North Dallas area, we found this place after some extensive walking! Don't want to give too many clues haha. Im aware of the Trinity River ban on consumption and i can assure you we weren't near that area smile

Yeah before this I caught an 8" crappie and has seen me catch crappie before so he understands this specific type of fish is feisty, even though he knows that hes determined to once again catch maybe a bigger one laugh . Since that day hes been able to catch some Bluegill but hasn't been able to land a Crappie ironically.

He's been "hooked" on fishing every since my dad and I first took him out fishing, hes been reading up on Texas panfish along with watching videos whenever he gets the chance. I'll be sure to tell him how many people enjoy his catch!
