When you fish with a team mate what way do you like to net the fish? Net in the water as they bring in the fish or wait till it gets to the boat and the fish is visable?

I've been a non-boater for many tourneys and such....most of the time the my partner has always preferred that I wait til the fish is on the surface...then slip the net in the water and let him guide the fish into the net...once the fish is in, lift the net gently but quickly into the belly of the boat and set it down. He takes over and I go back to fishing.

Wait til visible. Rim of net in water facing fish. Angler guides fishes head toward rim of net. Once the head is in the net the angler releases tension as the net man raises the net up and into the floor of the boat.

Net men that chase fish with the net don't last long.

Have the net at water level but not in the water. Be aware of where the line is and be prepared to get the net the heck out of the way if the fish make a last second run. When she comes up, slide it under and get her in!

I usually wait for the fish to surface and then scoop it quickly, I try not to hesitate and always scoop toward the fishes head so its natural swimming motion is in to the net.

edit: Unless the person tells me the way they want me to net, ill always go with the boaters preference

Saw somthing I liked the other day. the guy held the net gathered in one hand pre scoop. this way it couldn't catch on stuff and wouldn't do the crazy flop over thing if you don't get the momentum right.

I want the net man to put the net at a 45 degree angle, about half way into the water. I will guide the fish into the net, then they simply lift up.

I tell any of my new partners, do not swipe or scoop at my fish.

Set the hook first, ask questions later!!!

I either lip grab, under the belly grab or flip all my fish in. No net necessary

Tight Lines!

I say we fish 5 days a week and work 2.

This when I work net, but truthfully I pretty much flip anything under 3lb or so and quickly lip anything beyond that (depending on which rod I did the catching on, as some flip different than others)... I was a mechanic for years and there is nothing I trust more with an important fish than the grip of my hand I reckon lol... plus of the people I regularly fish with, there is only 1 I would trust not to swipe at my fish in excitement and even then, I'm too bitter a person to risk someone else being involved in losing one so I'd rather chance costing myself my own fish most of the time haha

Now there's something we agree on, Mh! The question was "your way of netting" but, given the choice, I'd rather use my WET hand. I'm sure I'm blocking out a few, but can't remember losing a fish I was trying to lip since the early 80's.

Much easier on the fish, too. I also boat flip everything 3lbs and less. Do my best to catch the line in my hand B4 they hit the carpet, but can't win 'em all. I do wet my hand before picking them off the carpet smile

Interesting Coangling on the Tour about 20% want you to have the net in the water before you can even see the fish. I do what told for each pro, but usually you want the rim of net as far away from the fish and line as possible until you are ready to net. Things only go wrong if the rim hits the fish.

Or when trebles are flailing about and hang up in the mesh, RL.

Someone mentioned gathering the net in one's hand. The few times I've netted big bass boat side, with big sharp treble hooks in their face, keeping the 'net' gathered until the beetch's head's in there is a must!
