Only fished a day and a half due to hotel reservation bs, but caught alot of fish. We did well around Fish Pass, catching several undersized reds w/ one slot on free lined Croaker, Pin Perch, and Chickenboy's on 1/8 oz RP Rattler's. A few keeper Flounder, Trout on artificials. Packery flats produced undersized Reds, didn't fish it very hard. The boat cuts around the causeway produced keeper Trout and Flounder on free lined live Croaker, fished on the edge of the cut near the pilings. Didn't fish Lighthouse.

Good report! Thank you! I'll be down there Sep 22 for 10 days and will be yakking some of the better spots. Hoping to limit on reds daily.

Did you fish Wilsons Cut or Shamrock at all? Headed down there next week...was going to hit there or bird island.

"Ahhh, yes yes...who has time? Then again, if we never take time, then how can we ever have time?"

I do in the fall out of a boat. I fish the green and pink house back lakes, that's quite a paddle from Wilson cut lol I talked to a guy that did in a Jackson. He said lots of rat reds.

G Love I'll do that. I'm still new to yakking, but I have a Hobie Pro Angler 14, and I'm a perpetual student of the Texas saltwater. I'll bet the Lighthouse Lakes are sensational in the fall on a rising tide.

Agree on all points. Except I'm not rollin a Hobie lol, tight rig for sure. Shamrock has always produced well for me in the fall also.

My buddy told me about Shamrock. I can't wait to fish it. He says it's about a 45 minute paddle. I have peddles, and that makes it less intimidating, but something about a 45 minute trip through a saltwater bay by myself has me a little intimidated. Is the island really easy to see from the launch site? Can you stand on the island at all or do you just have to wade in the water around the island? Thanks for the input!

I personally haven't fished the island. I fish the flats south of it. I fish the flats around the pink & green houses. You'll see them. CHeck out Google Earth, it helps. I like to throw artificials in the sand pockets while drifting over grass for Reds. The trout hang around the deeper holes and cuts and are shallow eatly of the morning. This is in the fall though. Sep may be a little diff, idk. I like to throw an 1/8 oz head with a paddle tail (TTF Red Killer, Gambler Flap n' Shad) in clear water colors. My favorite is Chicken on a Chain and Pumpk/Chart. Chicken boy lures are great also. The shrimp and the Psyco in COAC, red and white, and Trout King worked best for me. Hope this helps.

Where in relation to anything is the Packery flats and fish pass and lighthouse? Not trying to take your spots, just trying to get schooled on some kayak and wade friendly spots before I head down there for a couple days.

I'm heading down that way next week. I've got a 10ft castaway kayak I'm thinking about bringing with me, depending on the weather.

Our place is right behind Doc's seafood and Snoopy's pier. Any body know of some places to get out and wade fish there or worth the paddle in the kayak? It's been years since I've been down that way.

Lift strong, and prosper.

Nice report - good catches of trout, red, flounder and/or drum combos this year.

It's "on" this year here in the coastal bend of Texas.

Has the 5 trout limit started showing it's effects yet? Are people catching more quality fish since there are more to go around now?

In my opinion, the trout fishing has been as good as it has ever been. I have been catching 20" plus trout including a whopper in the surf of 29" and 8.5 pounds a couple weeks ago before the surf turned brown from the cold water upwelling. Conservation works.
