Carolina rig with live bait; heavy sinker on braided line.

I think that weight was a 3. I have multiple sizes and run that snap swivel so I can just change on the fly to something lighter if it's a light bite. I run 1-16oz of lead right now since most the rivers a still flowing.

I've been catfishing for years and have always wondered; what is the advantage of tying off mono/fluoro leaders as opposed to just using the braided line I already have on my spool?

WJ, if you use a lighter leader than your main line, you can break it off and get everything but your hook back.

30lb main line to a big snap swivel for a 4oz weight, 40lb leader, 2" cigar float, and 8/0 circle hook. Basically a Santee with a snap swivel to remove/change weights.
