Never used them before, always trolled or tight lined, for Sac au lait (crappie)

Went put with a friend Wednesday and he had some and they seemed to work well. However, when he got a good sized fish on the bobber stopper stayed at the end of his rod tip. After moving it several times it would get loose and had to be replaced. Is that the nature of them or was there something I missed.

If they are tightened correctly, they should pass through the guides with minimal resistance and hold their position.

Yes, make sure to pull the tab ends of the stop VERY tight! It will make the stopper harder to slide but will stay in place once you get it where you want it. If it still moves alot try using braid line. It holds better on braid.

Mine hold well with normal guides, but they will slide under pressure on my rods with micro guides...

They sell rubber stoppers with a loop wire thur them. You put the tag end of your line thur the wire loop and pull the stopper on to your line.
This type stopper work much better than the wrapped line type. They come in different colors. red black yellow ect

Yep, I like the ones JugHustler has recommended. I get mine at Gander Mountain (Eagle Claw brand). They ARE more expensive and harder to find than the line wrap type but work better so I think they are worth it.
One thing you need to pay attention to with this type is they are rated for LINE SIZE (4-6lb, 6-8lb etc). If you put one on that is for a lager diameter line size that what you are using it WILL slip on the line guides. I usually buy mine in the 6 lb line range because I hardly ever use smaller than that and they will work on 14 lb line also, just harder to move because they are tight on the line.

Be careful when selecting because located in the same area will be line "stoppers" designed to be used for pegging weights etc... these do NOT have the BEAD with the rubber stopper and without the bead they will usually pull through your bobber. The stoppers are much cheaper, who would have thought a little bead would add that much cost?

Try the Gizmo brand. They are a strip of plastic with 4 holes. Thread the line through the holes back and forth. They hold better than any of the others and go through the guides better. They come in different hole sizes for the line. Be sure to match the hole size with the line you are using. I buy mine 50 at a time from Cabellas. Beads come with them.

I leave about a 1/2" tag ends on so I can re-tighten as needed.

"I pilot"?!
Dang, that thing cost more than my whole boat/motor/trailer, and truck!
Not really, but close.
I've always wondered, do you have to have those things "networked" with you gps fish finder?

You can! its called an I pilot link and it works with a hummingbird gps combo but it was 500 more and I didn't have enough for that right now. I went to motel six and had a kidney cut out to pay for the Ipilot. I think I need the other one so I will make do. cool

I sure looking forward to fishing with it. I usually have to work the motor so everyone else can fish. I got it from R 1 bass in Beaumont.

To keep from losing the bobber if your bank fishing you can also put one below the bobber. If you break off the bobber won't slip off your line.

Well Beaumont is also my stomping ground, but I have never heard of R1 bass?
Where the heck is that?
