Went to L.A. this afternoon. Planned to spend from 5 p.m. to dark on the water.
Been off the lake for a couple of weeks due to having to order and replace the oil reservoir for the motor. Completed that task last weekend.
Left the house around 3 p.m. in Denton/Corinth. Encounter a mild traffic jam on Sunday afternoon as the freeway was shutdown due to construction and it was single file from I-35 & 635 to around Marsh Lane.
Delighted to be freed from traffic, started to makeup time and then a complete blowout happens on the trailer. Uh huh, - exactly, so much for plans.
Eventually arrive at Lake Athens around 7 p.m. Bait shop closed for the day - no crickets for this guy.
Turned my attention to schooling bass for the next couple of hours.
My point. No Catch, Photo & Release session of beautiful bluegills like pictured in the recent L.A. threads. Did catch schooling bass - and the school fish were chomping down on 1/2" to 3/4" shad. The deck, seat and boat were covered in the tiny morsels as fish spit them up on entry into the boat to be unhooked and released.
Despite the blown out tire, it was nice to be on the water.
Mr. Banker will love this part. As me and my fishing partner abandoned a school of feeding fish in order to search the shallows for a late, late evening bite, a small boat with three young anglers and either their father or grandfather positioned their boat close to school and it was game on. All of the children screamed with loud excitement and laughter as they reeled in the fish that had eaten their tiny lures. Best part of the whole trip for this guy!!!!
Bluegill report or pictures - 0. Trip to L.A. and time on the water - priceless!
