Just wanted to give a report on Rough Creek in case anybody wanted to make a trip out there soon. The fishing was not very good. When the fish would school it was exceptional, never seen largemouth chase Shad like this before, must have been hundreds of 2-6lb fish. Jerkbaits were killing the fish. Will post pics later. If you can find the schools it was great, fish started to school about 5:45 until 7:30, on and off the surface but the fish were definitely there.

Rodney this is probably not helpful but I'll throw it out there anyway. Many years ago, before it was a "Lodge",I was fortunate to be able to fish the lake/s many times. For summer time we fished the lake almost exclusively at night and concentrated on the damn with large plastic worms. The northern bank (from the old boat ramp east to the dam) has a great ledge as well and we caught quite a few fish there. Cannot tell you how many 5-10lb fish we caught on those trips. Undoubtedly some of the best fishing I've ever done. As the OP said there was also the occasional schooling fish but they were not as consistent back then. I have fished the lake once since it has become a "lodge" and did OK but the weather was horrible on that trip. One other tip-and this won't apply for this time of year and the structure I'm going to describe is probably not even there-but there was a large beaver damn about 1/2 way up the northern creek on the south side of the bank. It was right in a bend and sat on a drop off. The perfect scenario and man, did it ever pay off. Consistently gave up several 7-10lb fish each time we went in the spring or fall. It is probably not even there now though. Have fun.

Glen Rose TX! Awesome place to take the family or have a romantic getaway. The fishing is tudfer in the summer months but you can catch plenty of good fish. They don't unlock the boats till 7am so make sure you tell them you want a boat at 7. Also if it's that big of a deal bring your headlamp and start fishing plastics and top waters at 4AM. On a side note the food is 5 star, the staff is absolutely amazing and treats you like royalty, there are tons of things for the kids and adults, and the pools are great!!!

Politicians, baseball players, high-powered corporate CEO's they all seem to eventually let us down. Nature, however, does not. Look to her for inspiration and you will learn the secrets to living a good life. The most Important lesson it would seem is to make sure you spend as much time fishing as anything else.

I have fished the lake many times as well over the years starting about 12 years ago. Each year the fish get longer & thinner. Not to say you couldn't catch a DD there but it would be quite a feat. Last summer the fish were terribly malnourished. LOTS of fish with seven pound heads that weighed 4 to 4.5 pounds.

Still a fun place to go and the food and accommodations are Five Star but it is pricey fellas. Plan to spend about $700 for one night stay with dinner and a day of fishing. When I first started going it was 1/3 of that.

I was a guide at rough creek for 4 years. That lake has the possibility of producing double digits. Biggest I have seen was a 13. As everyone has said early morning is great. Start at the dock then fish that bank towards the dam. The creek channel runs along that bank. T-rig, drop shot, and frogs have produced on most occasions. If you ask you can do a guided trip and yall will go to other tanks/lakes. That's where you can catch numbers. Best bait is live bait almost guaranteed catch. Hope this helps. You can also take your own boat
