im looking to get a new boat in the next year or so, beside looks are the fiberglass fenders any better? I've heard when a tire blows it can cost a lot of $$$.... Really doing some studying in my next purchase I figure I'll keep the boat for life. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldnt have fiberglass for several reason the main is they are hard to get in and out. If your feet are the least wet you will bust your a$$. I have stainless with matting on top, also if you blow a tire it is expensive!

I've blown a tire w/ a metal fender(on the highway at 65mph) and it bent the fender pretty bad before I could get her shut down,I can only imagine the amount of damage if it had been fiberglass.

Go metal, when you blow a tire, you can usually bend metal back enough to change a tire and go on. Personally I would not have F-Glass on a trailer fender. I've pulling boats around for 40 years now & had my share of flats...

Metal. There are just too many FG fenders I see with pieces ripped off them from Blow outs.

I've seen a lot of cheap fenders of both materials bent up and busted pretty good. I think it has more to do with the quality of the fender itself. A thin fender will get damaged a lot easier than a thick one I don't care what it's made of. There is a lot of old Ranger Trail trailers out there with fenders that are still good. You get what you pay for.
