I'm looking for a place within an hours drive of me to go fishing. It seems like my choices are either benbrook or eagle mountain as those two are the only lakes with ramps open. My question is has anyone been out to eagle mountain within the past few days? Has it cleared up and? I went about a month ago and the water looked like chocolate milk....

Still pretty stained and fish are still scattered. Visibility at the surface is about 1'. Water temp 84 degrees. Most fish that I have been marking are on the move. I have had some success lately on main lake points with Ole Ugly slabs and Rooster Tails.

Thanks for the report! I hadn't been out to eagle mountain in a long time and when I went in June it was the first time I had been on my boat. I am still a greenhorn but I couldn't believe how flat the bottom was. I was looking for humps and drop offs in about 15-25ft of water and had no luck. I found the area back near the houses kind of near an island. It was pretty far off shore but it was around 6-15ft deep. I marked some fish there but no real luck.

... I couldn't believe how flat the bottom was. I was looking for humps and drop offs in about 15-25ft of water and had no luck. That is true about EM. It is pretty flat, for the most part. Except for the well-known humps and ridges, most of it appears to be rather soft, flat bottom. There are quite a few ridge lines and 'rough terrain' areas about 250-350 yards east-northeast of the Dam area [you'll have to look at a good TOPO map to see them], but I have rarely marked any fish in those particular areas. I have heard of others having success in these areas, but not me.

Thanks for the info. Where were you fishing? And what were you using?

If you can locate them you can catch them. They still have to eat!
