Where did you go and what did you need?

I just went to a Kwik Kar and none of the 3 guys working were quite sure about what I needed. They were asking for my trailer insurance. I thought I would just need auto insurance and/or possibly the boat insurance. Just asking to see if some people have done this headache.

Thank you

Same question. My travel trailer at Lake Fork requires an inspection. Any suggestions on where to have this done.

Thanks
Mark

if your trailer is less than 3000 lbs EMPTY, you dont need to get inspected... that is what we have been told

ps none of the boat trailers are 3000 empty

As the law is written, all that matters is your gross weight or registered weight

I went through all this about 2 months ago. if looking for a place to inspect.. try your local Jiffy Lube. Most of them are doing it.

As far as insurance for your trailer... should be covered with your car insurance. Contact your broker.

I was just about to go get my trailer inspected when I realied that although my trailer was rated for 6k lbs.... My boat and trailer combined don't come anywhere close to the 4500lb mark that determines you need an additional inspection. So I called the county office and asked. They assured me if I knew my weights,a nd indeed the combined total is less than the specified 4500, than I don't need to certify. I asked if I needed any proof or paperwork (ie. weigh station receipt) and the answer was no, I just needed to know the numbers themselves. So I proceeded to get my trailer registered and they were right, when I told them my combined total weight (also knew individual weights), they said all is good and I was in and out, no hassle.

hope this helps.

Dan

JC, I called DPS and told them my RV was on an annual lease at Lake Fork and was never on the road and they told me that it did not need to be inspected if it was not on the road. Confirmed this with the county tax assessor office, no inspection needed if it was not on the road. If towing then yes inspection needed if at the gvwr required.

If GVWR isn't over 4500 lbs (IIRC), you don't have to get it done.

Trailers for 17'-19' boats almost certainly won't need it. Longer boats might.

Just had mine done by Kwik Kar.

If the trailer is registered at a GVWR of over 4500lbs, it must be inspected.

Must have proof of insurance on the tow vehicle, not trailer.

Make sure you have a light shining on your license plate + all stop, running and turn signal lights must we working.
