I am installing an underwater LED on the back of my Champion. The wires are red and black. I am tying it to the stern light so it will work off the nav light switch. The wires on the stern light are black and white. How do I wire the auto code on the led to the marine code on the stern light

Please allow me one more statement. I wired the lights as described by the internet scholar and tested them on the battery. (Frying noise) Now my nav lights dont work and my accessory switch is dead. Breaker problem??? My lake is flooded and nobody can see me in the dark. I am (blanked) and confused. I want my mommy.

check the fuse. it should have blown. Check the wires to ensure that you didnt fry any. If you did just rewire

I havent found a fuse. The only thing I find is the circuit breaker under the nav light switch. The accessories stopped working too. The nav light switch gets power jumped across from the acc switch so it may have gotten one or both breakers. I ordered all new breakers since these look like the original 26 year old breakers. I do use a multimeter BUT I didnt use it to wire this light. Mistake! Would you recommend bypassing the breakers to troubleshoot?

I don't recommend skipping the breakers. You do not want to mess up and fry your harness system!

First test the output side of your breaker using the multimeter to see if it is hot (Has power 12V), Also make sure your multimeter is on DC Volts. If you have power then you should be able to tie into that line somewhere. LED lights have to be wired up correctly, they are not like halogen bulbs that can run on reverse voltage. Test your leds on a battery that works to ensure the LEDS work. Also, leds are very picky with voltage changes, only use 12 volts. If you have a 24 volt system for your trolling motor do not connect your leds here. They will fry is half a second.

1. So test your breaker to see if it works.
2. Test your LED separably to see if it works.
3. Connect your led inline with your nav system and see if it trips the breaker then.
4. If it does you will have to use a bigger fuse as you are using more current then your fuse will allow. This shouldnt be the case as leds typically use very low current.

Thanks guys. I ran new wire up the passenger side and put a switch beside the console for the underwater light. I rewired the running lights and all work well as well as accessory. I am still gonna replace all 5 of my console switches and breakers since they are 26 years old. I am still dealing with oil leaking into the carburetor cover. Dont know why my injection is spraying too much oil but I bought Yamaha shop manuals for the motor so I can learn the system. I am tempted to disconnect my oil injection and mix my own oil and gas. I had a 350 Ranger the oil injection was removed on and I never had to worry about too much or too little oil. Thank you all for the helpful comments.
