They do look alike but the ram-d "the more expensive" one has a bigger ball and socket than the ram b. I have the Ram d size which is about 2.25 inch ball on both my 898 and 998 and they work great.

I mounted an 899 on a ram a couple weeks ago at Cabella's they had two like those the bigger is better. Sorry Idon't remember the model number. but the store was the Allen Store and I believe I paid less than $40.00
I hope this helps

I have the D-111U with a 998 on it - and that bastard doesn't budge a bit when tightened down. Not sure about the smaller mount - it might work as well.

Maybe somebody that has the smaller one will chime in - but you can't go wrong with the heavy duty one.

Thx guys!!! SO just to be clear that 11"x 3" plate that connects to the 998 graph is supposed to connect to the gimbal mount that came with the graph right?

Yes, they have universal hole patterns in the plate that will match up with most units.
Get the heavy 2" ball mentioned above. You won't be sorry. The smaller ones just aren't enough for the big units.
