I just thought that I would post this since it was the biggest bluegill I have ever caught and even seen for that matter. Has anyone caught large bluegill like this before. I didn't weight it but my guess is about a pound.

Very nice bluegill! I've caught them that size before, but it's always nice to catch or see another!
Also...nice image in the background hehe.

I've only caught a couple that big before, and, both on dry flies while trout fishing!!! One I thought I'd snagged a log, but the darn thing just turned sideways. It was actually bigger than the fish in your pic-- and it was strong.
I wish I could catch them that size once in a while. Even "most of the size" of the fish in your picture would be a regular hoot.

Nice fish. You should get that weighed and turn it in for a TPWD big fish award and lake record for wherever you caught it.

Did you happen to measure him? A 10" Bluegill gets you a TPWD big fish certificate

I really want to lie about it but I just can't do it. Hotdog was the bait. I was fishing for bullhead and thought that I caught one until I got it up to the bank.

You got the right dink though. I can't catch a yellow bullhead anywhere YET.

Heh. I happen to know a pond FULL of them. And I know where to get blacks, too.
Heck, I know where to get Warmouth, but blanked on them today. I'll have a lot more trouble getting the fish the guys in boats get easily lol.

They have a type of bluegill that gets to five pounds now. I saw it on the discover channel on the show about Hogzilla. I think they call them Georgia giants or something like that. I would love it if they would dump a few in our lakes!

THat's a great fish right there! I've caught 'em that size and bigger. There's actually a pond in Lewisville where I've caught 'em up to that size.

I have not caught Blue gill of that size since we lived in Washington State on the Columbia river. The over flow pond for flood control held great numbers of that size panfish. Lots of fun.. Any idea on public ponds where I can take a 8 and 6 year old girl to fish from the shore line to caught and release some of that size would be a great weekend. I even post pictures of their smiles.
