It used to be a popular trot line bait due to the fat in it

When I was a kid we baited trotlines with Octagon soap. it's probably pretty similar.

Good ol Lye Soap. Made from hog lard and lye. Had my mouth washed out with it one time for saying a "bad" word of which I didn't even know the meaning. Made me a quick learner.

From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."

Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

It works great on a trot line for catching Chanel cats and blues you can get a lot of bait out of a bar just cut it into squares and put it on hook

Does not work that well for me. Have put it out on jug lines and maybe caught 2 channel cats on it. Prefer live bait or chicken livers.

On the upside, smells a lot better than stink bait!

Skip it. It never worked that well and the formula appears to have changed.

When I did back in the day run trotlines and jugs I caught channel cat and a few small blues on winnies, brown bugs,m/t hooks, cut shad, night crawlers, catalpa worms, cured chicken livers but never caught a fish on zote. All it ever done was stay on the hook until it changed colors.

Don, I was just gonna say the same when reading this post.
Never caught anything with it.
It has a higher fat content and it is a tallow based soap.
Wonder if we are supposed to make it with something else ?

Like a doughbait.

You would do better with Bar S hotdogs for bait.

I've used it for years with good results in moving water, doesn't work so well in lakes. I always keep some on hand just in case I run low on other baits. When we set throw lines in the river we usually use it on one hook on each set to stretch our bait.
