 Venice, LA---Recommendations?

Heading to Venice in late October for a bachelor party. Does anyone have any recommendations on a hotel or place to stay for a group of 8 guys. Most of what I've seen online are houseboats. Is that the way to go? Any fishing guide recommendations? How is the fishing that time of year? Any advice is appreciated!
