Anybody out there with an old Evinrude care to share what kind of transom saver they are using and where to get it? I have tried 2 already. I have a '95 200Hp Evinrude Vindicator(2stroke). I tried the transom saver that Academy sells, and though it works and fits... it is not long enough and the motor hangs too close to the ground. I was told that "Motor Stiks" are what I should get, since they are "universal"... those did not end up actually fitting. I even tried to strip it with a bit to make it wider to get the fit but was not successful.
Can anyone chime in on this? Surely someone on here must have gone through this same experience?

In my experience it is not the motor type that dictates the length of your transom saver rather the boat / trailer model. Sounds like you have a Ranger. I have a 2005 Ranger and had to go to a Ranger dealer in order to get one long enough. Not sure what boat brand you have but I would contact a dealer with that brand.

That makes sense to me... I actually have a '95 Stratos. I will take your advice and get in touch with Stratos and ask them. Thanks and much appreciated Big Kev.

I actually took a new one to a welder(one that can tig weld aluminum) and had him cut it in half and add about 2ft of aluminum square tubing to it. I have the one that runs from the motor to the trailer.

Just go buy tubing and cut the lenght you need.
