I have a 1995 mercy efi that when I want to plane will bog and not get up. I can keep my foot in it and eventually it will take off, or I just found out if I put it in neutral and rev the engine a few time it then will take off like a champ. This boat sat a while before I acquired it... Any suggestions as to what it may be. Seems to run fine other than this issue. I still fish out of it frequently... People just look at me crazy when I'm sitting there revving...

Put a whole bottle of sea foam in A full tank of gas and run it or buy the Mercury engine carb clean and tune, same [censored] engines prob dirty and carbed up and change the fuel/water filter as well, if it sat a year or more, I'd take it to mechanic and have him look it over snd inspect everything, and if the fuel lines haven't been switched to the new ethanol resistant fuel lines, go ahead and do it, and change the water pump too, they can go bad by just sitting, save you a headache later on, I have the same motor, motor is solid.

Running some fuel cleaner as we speak. I read a similar post with this issue that mentioned coils. Does this sound like something that should be checked?

I had the stator "coils" and two power packs go out on mine, it would start and idle just fine and all way to 1/4 of idle but past that the boat wouldn't get up on plane at all, and overheat alarm would come on

Coils are not know to give problems on your model. Fuel hoses breaking down, Old fuel. Clean the filter at #7 and inside of the hose at # 47--------http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Merc/Mercury/1995/1200424RD/FUEL%20MANAGEMENT%20SYSTEM%28BREAKDOWN%29/parts.html

New hoses and filters....and by hoses not just from tank to motor but those under the cowling also. Make sure to use the marine grade fuel lines...auto lines can collapse at WOT...Redwiggler out by Granbury did all of mine and it runs like new...it is also a 95 200 efi!

Checked and cleaned both filters. While I haven't been able to test it, I didn't see any thing that appeared to be a problem. Any other simple things I can check before I drag it in?

New spark plugs might help.
