While I believe almost all kayakers are polite and unselfish this shaming is for the 4 trucks parked at Wilsons Cut that left their trucks parked at the best launching site backed in where they launched. While there was room to back in and launch had two more kayakers decide to leave their cars at the launch site there would be no space. By the way, did you notice the two trucks with trailers parked just across the launch site? We were there before any of you so next time please join us and park the thirty steps across the road.

Picture? I don't put pictures of others without permission. I just want all of us to think about others. If those who are guilty are forum members maybe they will make better decisions in the future.

The status quo for parking at Wilson's Cut is to back up to the channel and launch without moving the vehicles to the opposite side of the road. As long as they were perpendicular to the channel (headlights pointing towards the road) they were ok. If everyone parks like this you can get about a dozen vehicles or more vehicles. I'll continue to park in this manner the same way I've done so the 100+ times before. The vehicles to the right in the picture is how everyone parks.

Go right ahead and park as you like. I will continue to launch and move so others can launch as well. Times do change, it is much more crowded and more and more people are enjoying the sport.

You may have a hard time convincing anyone how to park.
No lines, no signs so who really makes the rules?....Probably the first guy that shows up first and parks!
Just one more cast!

Some people are just plain lazy, inconsiderate and self absorbed or, at best, unaware novices. But worse than taking up launching space by parking their vehicles in the launching areas is when they back on to the ramp and take the next 15 minutes to rig their kayak on the ramp...making people who are already rigged and ready to launch wait on them...instead of rigging their kayak ahead of time and then launching. Unfortunately neither common sense or courtesy is very common any more.

Come on guys. Let's not make a bad name for ourselves like bass boat guys have done. Common sense says to launch and then move to a non launch parking spot.

Guys, the launch at Shamrock is not like launching lakeside, or along a river, or at a boat ramp where one or two vehicles have access at a time. There's plenty of parking along the water's edge for multiple vehicles, even more than what I showed in the picture. Yes, it's a popular launch and it does get crowded (especially on holiday weekends), but it is "first come, first serve" for parking. The picture I posted above shows two trucks in the lower left corner that appear to be parked on the gravel road; a huge no-no. At best, there's enough parking on the opposite side of the road for 2 maybe 3 trucks down the entire length of the road, roughly 1/10 the available parking along the Wilson's Cut. Secondly, the reason no one parks on the south side of the gravel road (opposite side of the gravel road from the launch) is because you can become stuck when high tide rolls in. The sand on that side of the road is not as compacted as on the channel/launching side, so even if the water does not flood over top it definitely softens up even more.
Trust me, when a launch requires me to park my truck away from the launch site I do so. Shamrock, like other launch sites on the coast, is not one of those launch sites.

So you want the people who get there first to give up the best parking so that someone else can possibly park there?
You said it yourself and didn't even realize it. It's only 30 paces. So if you get stuck parking on the other side or the road, walk your kayak 30 paces and launch.

Please read my post again, I was there at sun-up with two other friends and there was one truck parked there. We launched and the moved. Yes there are places to park up and down the channel but most of us like to park as close to the gate as possible if we are fishing Shamrock. Do as you wish and I will as well.

Right, I get that. Everyone wants to park as close to the yellow gates as possible, because it allows nearly direct access to the adjacent flats. However, those who have never launched or know nothing about the Wilson Cut launch site would make the assumption, based on your original post, that it's a lot like most other kayak launches where you unload your kayak at the water and then park away to allow others to do the same because the launch site can't accommodate more than one or two vehicles. That is absolutely not the case with this launch.
I was pointing out your implication that there's a parking lot for kayakers just 30 steps across the gravel road as misguided. At best all you're saving is 2 (maybe 3) parking spots by being "unselfish" and parking on the other side of the gravel road. Potentially, two more cars at the yellow gates may have blocked that particular parking/launch site that day you visited, but are you too lazy to make the additional 15 yard paddle down Wilson's Cut to the next parking/launch site? Or what about the next 25 yards from that spot? Apparently, that's too far for you, because being the martyr you are you then decided to use passive aggression to publicly shame people who did absolutely nothing wrong. There's a reason no one really parks on that side on the gravel road, because they don't want to chance their truck sitting in the flood of a high tide or stuck in the softer sand when they try to leave.
The next time you're launching at Wilson's Cut and see a Black F-150 with a gray kayak trailer "blocking" the launch site feel free to leave me a passive aggressive note shaming me for being unselfish.

Seriously? Your quote; but are you too lazy to make the additional 15 yard paddle down Wilson's Cut to the next parking/launch site? Or what about the next 25 yards from that spot? Apparently, that's too far for you, because being the martyr you are you then decided to use passive aggression to publicly shame people who did absolutely nothing wrong. You want to make that comment about me? Someone you dont even know who disagrees with your logic. Please make an educated argument without personal attacks. Tides and precipitation would dictate NOT parking on the hard packed sand across the launch site but that was not the case last week and you know you could move to any number of spots and let others access the area. Martyr? No just someone who believes in courtesy. Maybe that was just the way I was raised and try to live my life.
