 Does eyelet size make a difference??

I've been using the same two 7ft Shakespeare Ugly Sticks for a few years (two Penn spinning reels, bank fishing with live perch/bluegill/etc), and was wondering if anyone has used rods with larger/oversized eyelets; if so, do you find that there is less friction at the tip of the pole, resulting in longer/further casting? It kills me when I see the big guys surfacing a few more yards out, and I'd LOVE to be able to get that live bait just a liiiitle bit closer to 'em.

Thats all I buy that way I can use both spinnin or baitcast reels really cant tell any difference in casting distance. Wait if your usin spinnin reels yes you need big eyes

Yeah, the rods I have are spinning rods, guess a longer pole would be the only alternative. Ah well, I'll make due

yes it makes quite a bit of difference on surf rods ... when I was using 14 ft surf rods my bottom eye was 4 inches and tapered on up and could cast that sucker a mile... you also have to reduce line diameter to prevent line slap as well ... if you're using too heavy of line it'll sound like a weed eater rapping against a fence post it'll make so much noise and retard the cast dramatically ... on short rods you should use no heavier than 15 lb test and even 12 lbs would be more ideal for a 7 ft rod and not much bigger than that for long rods .. my biggest mono I used on my surf rods was 15 lb test and a shock line of 50 lb test to absorb the shock of the cast so that the sinker wouldn't fly off when it snapped the light line and could easily cast over 200 yds with that setup and average around 230 yds. but line diameter is one of the most important things to give you better casting distance ... like using the 12/40 lb braid you don't need a shock line but best to use one so that you can tie a float rig to the end of the swivel on the braid mainline ... pretty easy to set up a rod to be able to cast 100 yds with the light braid and about a 3 oz sinker

IF you need to get further distance, up the weight and/or use a longer rod. Pro Angler makes a 10' that's pretty legit.
