I currently have humminbird on the bow and console and fairly happy with both, my question is in you guys opinion...... Is one better than the other as far as Humminbird and Lowrance? I have the down imaging on both my units and they are ok, is Lowrance clearer? Pic up on things better etc.....? I know it depends on what models and all that I'm just speaking in general but is be more interested in the higher in HD. Thanks

Chevy/Ford; Coke/Pepsi; McDonalds/Burger King; Skeeter/Ranger; BPS/Cabelas...

These are all the same argument. There are good and bad about each. Personally I have what I have because of pre-wiring. Cost is pretty much a wash for the full package of like units. I like the mapping options on Lowrance, like the side images I have seen on 'birds. I think a nicely tuned unit of either will have the same result for identifying structure.

Agree, I was looking at Bp last night and the new Lowrance are really nice, I seem to think Lowrance has clearer screens etc.... Could be just my opinion.

humminbird generally has them on model closeouts for a very good price. check with universal mania or Bbg electronics on bass boat central forum. Thats where I got mine and am very happy with them. I have less than 3k in a 998hd si and a 1198si unit both. Thats about the same price or less than one new onix or hds12

I think screen size is just as important as the unit brand. I've got the 5 series Humminbirds, and the screens are really too small to see small details. I can see the big stuff just fine, but they fit my budget and do fine for what they are. Garmin is making a big run at being a player. While I've never used Raymarine, I've not been enticed by any of their offerings. When I eventually upgrade to larger screens, Garmin will be on the short list with Humminbird and Lowrance.

Screen size is huge for me too, my helix 5 is fine with full screen DI but not on split screen.

sold my 999 SI Hummingbird and got a Lowrance Hds 7 gen 3 touch.
There was things I could find on my HB that are not the same on the Lowrance,
Was using a Navionics Platinum south card in both units.
Don't understand what happened . Could it of been the larger screen.

I know this doesn't answer the original question, but I just purchased the Garmin Echomap 93sv. The decision was based on the value of the side view and mapping compared to other 9 inch models. The Garmin units have received good reviews. I am installing the unit tomorrow. Hopefully, it will be a good purchase.

Good luck with your new unit, I've heard good things about the garmin side imaging units....

WHat do you like?? I have lowrance and think the sonar is a bit better. I think hhummibird has a bit better structure scan. Raymarine are amazing too.

I have a buddy that guides and he loves his Lowrance.... the only negative thing he has to say about it is the waterproofing. He says he has had to return 3 due to water intake.
