 Hung out on Fork yesterday,

Went to Fork yesterday with my son, poor fella. Stopped at Thermocline first to pick up some new stuff.
Un-trailored the boat, squeezed the fuel bulb a couple of times and off we went. Ran across the lake for about 2 minutes and down went the engine, as if it ran out of gas. Started it in idle and it ran for another minute. Re-primed the bulb again and the engine ran fine for another minute. With the wind and not knowing the lake, engine trouble, trying to find brush piles and tree tops, it was miserable for both of us.
No crappie in the boat but we did tie to a stump and kick the skunk out of the boat with some channel kitties.
Question: Any clues on my engine trouble? Vent is clear, fuel pump is new, no trash in the filter. Bulb is not holding a prime. Engine runs fine when bulb is tight. I can feel the valve vibration in the bulb when I squeeze it but, it's as if, the engine is using the fuel in the bulb and not feeding fuel after that.

Mine did that once, sucking air. Replaced the fuel line and bulb.

Replace fuel line,some are double lined and it could have collapsed inside.

Check the pickup line inside your tank. If you have a Moeller, they are known to break off. I pulled mine and replaced it with a metal pickup.

Thx in advance! Had the same problem on my pontoon. Fuel line cracked at intake at gas tank. Sucking air. Replaced fuel line.

I have had the same problem on two different boats. Fuel line cracked, sucking air. Hope that is your problem as it is an easy fix.

Fuel Lines, and/or primer bulb could be a very common culprit. If you're running ethanol gas, that stuff is awful for rubber parts and seals.

More than likely you have a hole in your fuel pump bladder. If you pump bulb and engine runs fine.

If there was a hole in the fuel pump bladder, it wouldn't suck fuel from the bulb, right? Its sucking the fuel from the bulb and engine runs fine. I have to re-prime the bulb to keep it running. I did find a missing o-ring in my quick disconnect between engine and bulb. I think it was sucking air.

Had the same thing happen to me on Ray Bob a few years back. Boat would idle but nothing after that. Had a crack in the fuel bulb. Ever since then I carry an extra line and bulb in the boat. Make sure you put the bulb on the correct way look for the arrows since it only pumps one way.

It will still suck fuel but won't keep enough pressure to keep motor running. It's an easy fix and easy to check. Just giving my 15 plus years of boat mechanic knowledge.

Thanks guys, I will check the bladder just to be on the safe side. I'm going to replace the bulb just to make sure that's not the problem. Luckily for me the entire fuel line replacement and it's components are fairly cheap considering.
