When I got up this morning the wind gage said 14 mph. I debated not going, but it had been a week since I had a fishing session. I am glad I went, because although the wind made things difficult the bite was really good.

Last night I noticed my line was missing a hook, so I sat down this morning and replaced the hook before I left since that is a chore in the dark. When I got to the creek I cast in front of some weeds and a hefty sized bullhead grabbed the bait on the way down. I landed the fish and found he had swallowed it completely. I nicked the thin gold Aberdeen hook with the long nose pliers and it snapped. I got to tie on a hook in the dark after all. So much for planning ahead.

I caught a number of green sunfish from the edge of the cattails. When they slowed down I moved upstream a few yards to the bluegill beds and caught a number of cookie-cutter bluegills all the same size and shape. They are in their spawning colors.

I stayed two hours. When the wind got too unpleasant I quit. All the fish were released.

Great catch, Very interesting viewing them side by side like that. A couple of them look them like they have hybridized at some point in the blood line.

I think so too. They look like Green/Bluegill hybrids, otherwise known as Georgia Giants. The biggest one was good sized. He coughed up a large partly digested crawfish.

Great job, SH. I noticed quite a bit of the greenies I caught had ate some big craws and the bluegills in the other pond were eating small craws. The greenies are in a vey weedy pond and the bluegills are in a less vegetated, more rock and gravel pond. Besides their obvious mouth size, I think the weedy pond fosters the crawfish to grow big. I'm gonna throw out a crawfish trap and see what happens.

Great job battling the elements and getting out there, SH. Nice post and report as usual! cheers
