I plan on fishing Rockport and taking my boat, an 18ft Bay Stealth. My question is how far can I take the boat out? Are there any rigs? Is it possible to take it far enough to fish for Snapper?

Just got back from Rockport yesterday. Yes, 18ft Bay stealth will be fine in the bay. Fish for specs/reds/flounder/ black drum in the bay - Shrimp with a popping cork will generally get a few. Watch the wind/weather reports... a 10-15 MPH south wind can create some big rollers in the middle of the bay. More than 15mph wind stay off the middle of the bay. There are a few gas rigs in the bay, never fished them though - they are less than 15 feet deep. I would not recommend you going off shore in that boat. The nearest off-shore rig is 10 miles from the beachfront and from Rockport you will have 15 miles to get thru the nearest land cut to the Gulf. If you want snapper, etc. go on a party boat out of Galveston, Freeport or Port Aransas.

I'd stick to the deep mid bay reefs with that boat.
