I know kayaks launch at riverside park below the dam at Whitney, and I've heard of people putting in airboats there too.

Does anyone know if it's possible to launch a jon boat off a trailer there? I have a shallow running river boat that I'd like to try out there.

It may be possible to launch, but normal flows mean you'll have to drag extensively at several points I would think. Probably 40+ yards of likely dragging immediately at the ramp before you get to a long stretch of deeper water (2-6 feet).

I haven't been there since the big rains but right now a john boat is probably doable I'd think. This last month they've been releasing 14-25 thousand cubic feet per second pretty much non stop... under normal flows it wouldn't be a great idea but then normal flows are less than 200 cfs. They're basically pouring 70 to 100 times as much water as they normally do into the river on a daily basis. Whitney is still 8 feet over pool so there's a good bet that those flows will continue for a little while.

You never know though. You might try calling the Corps of Engineers and asking.
