I recently started using specialized baitcast gear for my finesse bass fishing. I fell in love using baitcast gear for finesse techniques! I just acquired my first ultralight baitcast rod for panfish trout. I bought the Major Craft Fine Tail 54UL baitcast rod. I will be pairing it with my Daiwa SS Air and 4 lbs subline sniper. I will update when it comes in for sure. First trout trip with it is planned for end of July. Anyone else using ultralight baitcast stuff?

At about $500 for the rig you mentioned plus the cautions Daiwa imposed on the reel you can be sure I will not be trying it. I felt guilty when I paid $80.00 for a Daiwa Goldcast outfit with an Agility trout rod.

I hope you enjoy your new outfit. Finesse fishing is fun regardless of the rig used. Let us know how it works out.

210 amateur angler used to be a frequent poster here and on some of the other boards. He got deep into fishing ultra light baitcast gear. I remember he really took a shine to the Diawa Pixy baitcaster. I'd do a search for his handle and/or try to pm him. It was all one word if I remember correctly.

Got the rod in today. Such a sweet little gem! So cool I threw on my Shimano Aldebaran BFS XG limited reel spooled with 5lbs sunline sniper and took off to the river. I had to catch a fish on this setup! Lol. Caught around 15 total on micro cranks. Beautiful longear, crappie, and sand bass. Just fun! Yes, you pay to play on this setup vs an ultralight spinning rod. That said, this is by far one of the most fun setups I have ever fished!

Why do you think it is more fun than UL spinning gear? I'm glad you enjoy it, but am just curious as to why.

For me it is just something about being able to use a baitcaster for super light lures/baits. It offers the advantages of instant lure control on cast, more accuracy, and a high speed gear ratio to boot.
