Higher the setting, less the drag. Higher performance,,generally speaking. Too high and holeshot goes away.and WATCH WATER PRESSURE!! Lots of factors come into play. Consult a professional before making drastic changes, but the right set up can make,a huge difference

For best replies give boat/motor combo, jackplate size, prop to pad ratio of current set-up. prop pitch and style current rpm and mph at wot and desired gains, top speed, hole shot mid range etc..

08 champion 183cx evenrude etec 150, 10" manual jack plate, 3 blade rebel prop (not sure on pitch) but I believe 15" diam. Top end speed is around 49 trimmed out and at approx 5800 rpm, I'm seeing where others are getting a little more out of theirs.

Check you water pressure the way it is.
Level the bottom of your boat on the trailer.
Lower your motor till its level.
Measure the difference between the bottom of your boat and the propeller shaft.

Adjust the motor till its 3 1/2 inches difference. Thats pretty close. Make sure you are getting water pressure at all trim levels. If you have water pressure problems lower it an 1/8 inch and check again.

If can borrow a Tempest 21 or 22, try it.

Performance can vary with boat, HP, setup, load, etc. 2 most important things is 1) sufficient water pressure, and 2) having the right prop. Low water pickup will help you raise motor without losing water pressure but if you surface the prop, and it isn't made to surface, you could sling a blade. Finding the sweet spot is a tedious process, but worth the wait. Call Steve's custom prop in Quitman for input. They've been very helpful to me.
