I recently acquired a 2002 stratos 18xl with a 150efi Mercury and I do not like the bow rise or the cavitation while trying to get on plain and wondering if a hydrofoil would work just looking for pros and cons ect thanks

Typically a bandaid for a bad setup. The right prop at the right height is your first task.

So details, what are you running now and what's your WFO number with rpms?

Does the prop have PVS plugs in it.Make modle and pitch of prop. More Details are needed. I would start by checking the complete setup. Does it have a jack plate if so how much set back. RPM at wide open throttle. Weight distribution too much weight in the wrong place. How high the motor the motor is. Steve at SCP is a pro when it comes to set up his web site give directions on how to measure engine height. Steve worked magic for me I learned alot from him.

Pat Goff is also as good as it gets for these things.

I know it's a stainless 23p prop It has no jackplate im looking for a inexpensive fix so a jack plate being installed is probably out of the question I wouldn't mind spending the money on a prop but if I can get the results out of a hydrofoil that I'm looking for for about $100 or less I don't see why it would be necessary to spend $300 on a prop but if I need a prop to fix it I will buy a prop

Replied to the pm, this is more for the scad of unknown that read these comments.

Your motor is currently turning 5,200 rpms. Should be at 5,700. When you prop it to turn proper rpms your holeshot problem will vanish.

Now you could put that plastic thingy on your motor and you could maybe see a better holeshot but it won't change your motors output, which running at too low rpms will absolutely shorten it's lifespan. Undue stress on bearings and rings will cause issues way before they should.
