Well I had to place a order this weekend for more Stubbys because of how good it did for a friend of mine in canyon lake. Canyon lake is a hard lake to fish for catfish in my opinion. But I told my buddy about Stubbys bait and he said he's never herd of it so I sent him one of my tubs I had. It was a half full one because I use that stuff now like crazy. Well he got it and went and fished at 6 in the morning on canyon lake and he caught 20 cats and had a lot of hits. He blew through the tub. If anyone hasn't tried Stubbys bait, you should give it a shot. I will guarantee that you will catch cats almost every time you use it. Stubbys cheese bait works like a charm.

It is my favorite. If you haven't met him personally, you need to.

I have tried Stubby's twice on Canyon and not even a nibble. I attributed it to all the new water messing the fish up. Or maybe I'm not doing something right. I would love to get on some cats here soon. Was he fishing off the bank or boat? I was in my kayak so it was hard enough keeping in one spot.

I've also fished Canyon a couple of times with no luck. It looks like the likely places are going to be the at the upper end when you start getting into the flooded timber and in the mouth of the Guadelupe. The main body of the lake doesn't support much vegetationLast time I was there was right after Memorial day and the lake was still low, so be careful in that area. The timber is now probably submerged with some of it possibly just below the waterline. I personally think the way to approach it would be to use the chart chip in the FF to keep you in the main channel then use the trolling motor to get into the timbers. At any rate, let us know how you did and the general area you were in. We camp at Potters Creek a lot, but I don't always take my boat. I would if I thought it would be decent fishing but I just havn't hit it good yet. I've talked to a few guys that have had decent luck with stripers close to the dam.

You can have the best bait in the world but you can't catch them unless you are where the fish are! Find a likely looking spot and chum the area which should increase your chances.

I would love to get on some cats here soon. Was he fishing off the bank or boat? I was in my kayak so it was hard enough keeping in one spot. I'm a yakker also. If you are having a hard time keeping in one spot, it sounds like you don't have any kind of anchoring. I wouldn't even get on the water without an anchor and anchor trolley. You just have to find the fish. Finding fish beats bait and presentation every time. If you aren't catching fish in 30 min (or less!), move! Also, if you don't have half a day to put into it, don't worry about getting skunked. Sometimes you just run out of time finding the fish if you only have a couple of hours to fish. Happens to me. I'm lucky to get a couple of hours on the water frequently, so I can handle getting little to no action some days since I'll be back out for another short trip soon. You are in a kayak which will allow you to cover a lot of water, but your range IS limited. Some days just aren't going to work out.
