Buddy (former now haha) yanked on the boat to pull it on shore while I was standing in the back. I did a scooby doo slow motion tumble into the water and in process stomped on my 6'6" Med / Fast Vendetta spinning rod. Luckily I only paid 20 bucks for it on some crazy walmart sale but now I need a new rod. I wasn't as impressed with the Vendetta for spinnning so I wont be spending full price for another one. I was thinking 7 foot this time to give me more distance (plus my dad is getting older so when he visits he can cast farther) I will be doing mostly medium sized square bills, weightless plastics, shaky heads in my neighborhood lakes. I guess maybe I should go with medium heavy this time? Medium has always fit the bill for an all around rod but maybe I'm missing out by no going medium heavy.... Suggestions for under a Benjamin? Couldn't find an H20 rod with length that would fit the bill for some reason. Fenwick HMX or TFO came up in some searches as a possibility. I don't want to go so cheap with a Berkley lightning but I'd like some good bang for the buck since I'm coming from an 80 dollar rod I got for 20 bucks. I'm not broke but I like to be impressed. Dads coming into town on Thursday so I need to get a move on to have it by then for him to use. I do have amazon prime so if its something Academy Gander or BPS don't carry I might be able to get from there. Thanks in advance! My other setups: Pfuleger president spinning reel / ???? Pflueger President 6'6" MF from combo spinning / Trion reel Veritas 7' baitcast MF / BPS pro qualifier Vendetta 6'6" MF baitcast / H20 Mettle

You mentioned the H20....I am shocked that you can't find one of those in 7' MH. I bought one(maybe it is 6'10) to put on a shaky head set up and I have to tell you for $40 bucks I'm not sure you can find a better rod. Maybe I just got lucky but the sensitivity of this rod for the price is actually pretty good. Maybe hit another Academy?
In the $100 range my two cents is there isn't a better bang for your buck rod than a TFO.

Get a 13 Omen Black and never look back.
I bought an H2O Ethos MH spinning rod a couple of weekends ago (I think it's 7'1 or 7'3) because it was on clearance for $20. . .I would not recommend the rod. It's not underpowered like the casting rods are but it's really dead feeling. It's really strange. It feels like the least sensitive rod I own, worse than those Berkley Lightning rip jobs.

Falcon bucco st Croix MOJO some of the shimano rods, tfo, or be patient and wait for one to pop up in the classifieds. Post for something in the classifieds ad well.
Politicians, baseball players, high-powered corporate CEO's they all seem to eventually let us down. Nature, however, does not. Look to her for inspiration and you will learn the secrets to living a good life. The most Important lesson it would seem is to make sure you spend as much time fishing as anything else.

I was drop shotting the other day but at the very end, I threw a weightless large 6" Grande Bass Rattlesnake plastic worm and it was too much load for my 7' St Croix spinning rod. It felt sluggish.
But, I'd rather downsize the weightless worm to something less heavy (that is one heavy worm by the way!) than move up to a MH rod.
You just lose so many of your advantages across the finesse fishing techniques.
Others will have different opinions but I like Medium and down for spinning rods, MH and up for casting rods.

I HAD a Fenwick MH till just recently, (got caught under the seat and broke). It was my favorite spinning rod. It was sensitive and just felt right. I'll be buying another one as soon as I get to the store.

Pulling the trigger on a TFO Signature 7' Medium/Fast at lunch today. I like the 13 Omen following was the most convincing but can't find one locally. The Falcon Bucoo looked decent and people liked the sensitivity but it's not rated past 1/2 oz and this thing needs to be a multi-role rod. The TFO naysayers for the most part never fished with one. Hopefully it's better than the Vendetta it's replacing. I wasn't too impressed with the spinning version of that rod. Thanks again for the input guys. I'll report back once I use it and compare to the Veritas and Vendetta for those interested.

TFO is definitely a good rod. Better than those Abu rods. I'm not sure where you're located, but Dick's and Gander Mtn usually have the 13 Omen rods in the store. They definitely are hard to find in the stores.
