Hello All,

First time to post and I am very excited to find this site and look forward to learning alot.

Im looking for information on which rods and reels to purchase for my different set ups. I am mainly a soft plastic fisherman and have always bought what was on sale. Now as I draw nearer to purchasing my 1st bass boat I need some help on which rods and reels to purchase. I recently fished with an ABU Garcia Veritas 2.0 on a Revo SX reel and loved the combo together and would love to match that combo on different actions and lengths but am ignorant when it comes to knowing what actions on which presentation. The price range for is right in my budget as well about 250-300.00 each set up. Can anyone shine some light on this? Id like to purchase a setup for each the following and if you can shine some light on gear ratios on the reels as well that would be awesome. Long Winded I know but i figured id put it all out now.

1.) Texas/Carolina Rig/Swim Jig
2.) Flipping Setup
3.) Cranking /Spinnerbait Setup
4.) Topwater/Frogging
5.) Fluke/Senko
6.) Shaky head/Dropshot Spinning setup.

Thank you all for all the input.

Welcome! For me I use:

7'H 6 power for TX rigs
7'H 7 power for C rig & larger swim baits
7'3"H for heavy cover flipping (also doubles as my frog rod)
7'3"M composite for deep crankin'
(2) 6'10MH for swim jigs, spinnerbaits, & weightless plastics
(2) 6'6"M for topwaters, jerkbaits, and shallow cranks
6'9" & 7' fairy wands for finesse stuff

7:1 for bottom presentations, flippin, & frogging
5:1 for deep cranking
6.3:1 for everything else

It would be nice to have a few more specialty rods, but this habit has already eaten years of my retirement, hehe.

Don't worry about trying to get too specialized. I got by just fine with just three rods for many years. What works for me may not be best for you.

Im located in Belton Texas just outside temple/killeen. What does it mean by 6 power or 7 power? Thats the kind of stuff that gets me confused.

Copied and pasted from another source:

Fishing rod power, or what is sometimes referred to as rod weight, is the amount of pressure required to load the rod. By load, I mean the point along the shaft at which the rod flexes.

The thickness and type material from which a rod is made, which constitutes its blank, determine the rod's power, as they also do its action.

Notably, fishing rod power is closely related to the line strength, with heavy power rods having the capacity to handle heavier rated lines and conversely, light power rods best suited for light lines.

Are there certain brands you all would recommend staying away from and others that have seem to be fairly successful in theses different presentations or is it mainly preference like my deer rifles and calibers? In the best scenario id like to stay with the same brand across the board on all the combos.

This will help you understand more.

6 power , and 7 power rods is how some blank manufacturers categorize there blanks.
They are not all consistent. A 5 power in one manufacturer might feel more like a 6 in another.
