I have a question for jug fishermen out there. I just set out some newly made flagging juglines. I tried something different and used the Magic Bait trotline clips for the drop lines. I used swivels on the bottom of the clips to help reduce twist. When i ran them this morning, out of a total of 12 hooks (6 jugs), i was completely missing 3 drop lines! I've used these clips on trot lines before with ZERO problems. Any ideas? I dont want to think that someone ran my lines, but I'm not sure. Has anyone else used these clips on juglines and had the drops "dissappear "?

Any advice appreciated!

Thanks for the reply Opus. When i came to the first one missing a clip I was going to give it up to that ONE time that something like that could happen, but when i was missing one on my next two jugs, it just didnt seem right.

We use those same clips and haven't ever had any problems.

I have lost plenty of them. I'm sure they all ended up in being stolen because they were attached to fish.

Flagging jugs are great if you are watching them, if you are going to just drop and run.... Not so much.

I never leave my noodles un-attended. Thieves are everywhere especially on lakes.
I carry binoculars in my boat to watch my jugs from afar and I have my CHL just in case there is any altercation from anybody I catch messing with my stuff. I'm too old to fight.

Friday on lake Bonham I chummed a spot with range cubes and threw out a marker buoy. A guy in a red G3 bass boat with two power poles on it was near putting out his noodles and they ended up all around my marker. We waited and watched to see if he was going to steal my marker but A little thunderstorm blew in so we went to the dock. After the storm passed we went back to fish and that SOB took my marker. He was the only other boat in the area.

Thanks for the heads up. I fish Lake Bonham a lot. I will be on the lookout for said boat. I mostly go under the bridges and fish the creeks where such boats can't go. My little tracker barely squeezes under.

We always put our jugs out right at dark and run them at first light. I did notice another boat a couple of hundred yards away thar was running their own free floating jugs (I passed a few of them in the middle of the lake as we were heading to our lines). It got me wondering .

Sure sounds suspicious centexhunter. A free floating jug with a swivel shouldn't be able to get twisted allowing a trotline clip to unhook unless it got hung on something, but still unlikely at that. Sounds like they didn't want to take the proof of your ownership with 'em.

eeks

Man if I get in an altercation with someone over catfish, they can have it. I'm not pulling steel unless me or my family are in danger. I hear what you're saying but would hope all of us here would flee vs. shoot if possible. Tight lines. thumb

A thief is a thief if they will STEAL a fish they will STEAL the stuff out of your boat or your boat itself. I wouldnt shoot for stealin a fish but first sign of aggression when confronted is different

Opus is right but if it come down to brass tacks it's best to get the authorities involved.

I bought a bag of clips one time and had to squeeze every one of them tighter or the line would slip out between the 'hook' and the sides. Only happened with one bag.
