My girlfriend and I love the salt. We decided the kids needed to touch sharks. Ofcourse we gotta go to padre island national seashore. We left late on friday and ended up not getting there till 5am sat. The surf wasnt terrable but not ideal. Started trolling ribbonfish for kings. After about half hour of paddling around birds etc I get a screaming run. I thought for sure it was a big jack or a big king at first. Then I see what it is, a solid shark. Now how to get it two miles back to shore for kids to see. It was a bit of a pain to be honest. I would gain line, put my rod in my flush mount and try to paddle in. It was a dance between giving line and paddling in. If anyone has paddled agenst a 5.5-6 ft shark, its tough. Then came the sloppy surf zone, how to fight the fish and not have a yard sale. Super challenging. Got to the sand and people and kids went crazy. To see them light up with excitement was a great feeling. Life long memories for them. Hung out on the sand the rest of the night. The next morning the surf was amazing. I took my son out to go for another. After about an hour wait my reel starts screaming. Shark on! I let it run for a few mins then slowly tighten the drag and reel like a mad man. Hand the rod to my son to fight as long as he can. The shark jumps and Geesee its huge! Tail whipped the line and gone. Sad for me. My son after seeing how big it was may have been happy it got off. All in all a great weekend and now gotta find a way to get back down soon.
