For the main bass gurus that fish the lake.

I have read a couple blogs about the invasion of white bass and most say they have not seen a negitive change in bass fishing. Most say the schools of whites push the blacks into cover. And also, finding a school will usually locate a couple bass in the bunch as well. Bla bla bla.

I would like to hear what y'all think of them. Besides being a burden by catching them.

I have won a few tourneys and love fishing for the bass. But these 17-18 inch Sandies intrigue me as it's kinda new and fun.

I am doing my best to take home a limit every time I'm out there. ( of Sandies) with that said we have sliced up 850 fish in the last 8 days. 100+ big yellow bass to add.

They're are food source for bass as well, bass will eat them, I've caught a bass and a sandbass at the same time on an arig , 6lb bass and 3lb sandbass on an arig was a fight, only thing worries me is the sandbass devour the threadfins faster than bass can eat them, it's competition and usually sandbass will eat double the shad bass will eat.

Keep up the good work! I don't believe sand bass "push blacks into cover". I don't think they push them anywhere. The only possible negative is as stated above: they share a limited food source. Does not seem to have had a negative impact to date but keep up the good work keeping the sandies in check!

I don't believe the sand bass will "push" the black bass off of anything. The main problem I see with the sandies is that they are in competition for the forage on most of the offshore structure now where as before the blacks had no competition.

More predators to eat the bait usually means thinner fish but... Lake Fork is a fish factory, always has been. Only time will tell what impact the sandbass have on the black bass population.

Ken, we are already seeing either effects from the Sand Bass or low water levels, or a combination of both. There aren't as many unders in the lake as in past years. Sand Bass have a high metabolism and are eating machines. I have seen them up very shallow at Fork. I believe they will decimate a fry population. The stockings by the state of fingerlings was a waste. They dropped many of them in the boat lanes. Straight to the gullet of Sand Bass.

Big Red, those idiots did the same thing on ray Roberts. Dropped the fingerlings in the middle of the lake and the sand bass had a great meal. As for the impact. I think it will be minimal. The bass will eat the sandbass. Ray Roberts has had sandbass since inception and it still thrives. fork has an abundance of shad. If that depletes the bass will eat the sandbass. I found a largemouth swimming on the surface a few weeks ago. it was a 5lb largemouth with a 10 in sand bass in his mouth.

Shows you how "bright" the bass are when they eat a finny fish like that....or how hungry they are. You decide.

When you are standing alone with your buddies in a hallway (brushpile) and all of a sudden the bell rings (sand bass move in to devour a school of shad) to get out of class, you often times relocate your position do to the crowded situation.

Maybe I am giving the bass too much intelligence.

My wife caught one that weighed 5.04 off our neighbors dock in Little Caney... Didn't take it in until the next day to get certified but it had lost some weight overnight.... I would post a pic but it was on my other phone that fell in the water.... I think she had the lake record if I would have weighed it in when she caught it.

I don't disagree with you Steve.

I saw a bunch of the sandies up shallow in years past as well. I do however think that the lake level this year during much of the spawn will be beneficial to the black bass population. All lakes go through cycles. We may be seeing the effect of what you are referring to now on Fork with the lower numbers of Unders this year. But I do think (hope) we will see a resurgence of Unders in the next two years. I am also hopeful that the shad spawn was off the hook this year too.

Only time will tell.
