I'm interested in chumming, for channels. How deep of water do you chum? and what do you look for when selecting a spot to chum? Also is sweet feed or range cubes better? Sorry for all the questions.

20% range cubes. Small amount to attract, not to feed them. 2cents

How soon before you fish do you bait an area? Also will sweet feed work right out the bag?

It has been my experience on lake fork that range cubes and Stubby's bait gets the fish biting fairly quickly. So I would say if you ain't catching them in a half hour move. If you got good shade and cold beer you might want to wait longer. In the winter I usually chum a few spots and check them the next day. Fish seem to move more slow in winter... It is a definate advantage to being retired or have a few days to bait several spots to see what depths produce bigger fish.

My local feed store has crawfish cubes, looks like range cubes but bigger. He says they will last 3 days and have fish oil in them that attracts better. Has anyone ever used them. They are the cubes used to bait crawfish traps. Big heavy stinky cubes.
