Took my 7 yr old niece fishing in the upper reaches of Joe's Creek, which runs through her neighborhood. She has been there countless times, to throw rocks, feed ducks, Let her dog Duke splash around, but never to fish. Fortunately for me, the greenies and long ears were most cooperative! I made the casts, handed her the rod and told her to do a slow but "regular" turn of the crank. Hookups were practically instant, and then the fun began! Clear water, made sight casting for me quite easy. The greenies were most cooperative in putting up good fights before being landed. We even managed to hook and land a very nice black bass, who obliged my niece by skyrocketing out of the water trying to shake that jig! She had an instant adrenaline rush, and did a fine job of landing it. The only sore spot was that by the time Uncle Slo-Mo here could get to the fish, secure it and unhook it for a primo photo op, it wiggled around in the grass, spit the jig, made one lunge for the water, and was gone! We found long ear beds, as many as a hundred saucer shaped nests, stretched out along the creek bed. They were small but fiercely protective of the nests, hitting the jig on contact with the water. My niece, the lovely Ms Emma, quickly labeled them "rainbow fish", as their brilliant spawning colors did indeed contain most every color in a rainbow. A fun time was had by all, and we plan on doing it again soon. Rudy

Just Awesome Rudy, the experience and the story I've been chasing the longear and greenies in the local creek but haven't caught any that big. Sounds like an extremely healthy fishery. God is blessing you for your act of kindness; these great memories will be with her for a lifetime!!!

FYI all fish caught were released, and caught on red/chartreuse hollow body tube jigs, 1/32nd oz. UNPAINTED jig heads, on 6 lb. Berkley Trilene, on a Quantum Optix 10 UL gear. Those sunnies LOVE those tube jigs. BTW, the jigs are the WalMart clearance rack specials. Spare no expense, LOL!
