I'm looking for a new cover on my old '95 Stratos and don't want to fork out the m$ on a custom one. I was wondering what are y'alls experiences with Aftermarket Universal covers such as the ones Academy sells, Bass pro... etc.

good/bad experiences welcome.
thanks

Are you planning on keeping this on your boat outside 24/7/365? If so, I would just go buy a good tarp from Wal-Mart. If you only want something inexpensive to cover your boat while traveling, then just go get one of the Marine Raider Platinum series for about $130 and keep your receipt. When you are through hauling your boat, make sure you put the cover up dry.

I have tried quite a few. I recently got the ratchet support system cover from Cabelas for my 97 18' Stratos. It fits almost like the original custom cover. This is by far the best universal cover I have used. They have them priced fairly too. It has plenty of strapping points and the way the straps cross the cover keeps it good and tight. The key to keeping the boat dry is to be sure there isn't anywhere water can pool on the cover.
Hope this helps.

yes... my boat is being stored outside in the open. I get the impression from most people that I should just buy a new one every year, which I'm fine with since I don't think custom ones last as long as they say so anyways (used the same way). Mine's a 20 footer.
I have been pondering about those Marine Raider covers actually. Just didn't see any reviews of them online.

Keep your receipt. Marine Raider has at least a one year guarantee.
