But not the brake lights on trailer. Everything works on the truck. When I apply the brakes even the running lights go off and I have nothing.

Ideas?

Did you wire the truck hookup or is it a factory plug?

#1 problem for trailer lights is bad ground. Some with ground through the ball and coupler to the truck, some wont. Need to make sure the ground on the trailer size is grounded to the trailer frame.

I admit I am an electronics dummy. Would my running lights and turn signals work if my trailer isn't grounded right? Someone else mentioned this to me so apparently the brake lights present different problems.

By the way, I did have a blown fuse that was keeping my running lights from working. I replaced that yesterday.

Thanks.

Ground issues can make all kinds of things go haywire.

I used my truck to pull our boat for 5-6 years never had a problem and didn't have the ground on the trailer side hooked up.

Took my grandfather fishing one day and he said we should take his pickup so we did. After that the lights didn't work on my truck again till we grounded it. It was a little weird.

Google trailer wire diagram or something. They are color coded, should be pretty easy to trouble shoot.

I know for sure the white ground wire is not attached to the trailer at the front. It is connected to the white wire going to the back of the trailer with the rest of the wires. Would I risk shorting something out if I just cut it and touched it to the trailer to see if that makes my brake lights come on?

Well, I was wrong about no ground attached to the trailer. I got under the tongue last night and it is attached to the frame through the bold that holds on the safety chain. I cut the wire, got a new connector and washers, and now everything works except my driver's side brake light. It works when the truck is turned off but the entire light goes off when I hit the brake with the truck running.

This stuff is like putting together a puzzle.

It is stil a ground problem, probably at the drivers side tail light. With the truck running the clearance lights are on, right? There is 12v to the clearance light bulb you hit the brakes and there is 12v to the stop filament of the bulb and no ground so the lights go off. Both filaments in the bulb terminate to the base of the bulb When the clearance light is not on and you hit the brake there is enough resistance in the clearance light circuit to make the brake ligh come on. b

That makes sense even to a mechanical dummy. I'll look for the ground at the light itself. Thanks.
