Looking for suggestions for a baitcasting rod for using a drop shot, with 14-15 lb flouro, 3/8 to 1/2 oz weight. I have an older Cara that is a 6 and 1/2 foot 5 power rod. It worked OK, but I felt like I might need more tip. Only rod I had with more tip is a 7 foot MH crankin stick. Not enough feel for my taste with that rod.

I have a 6 10 bucco finesse jig rod. Anybody used it for this application? I would try it, but it is in plastic wrap and if I put a reel on it, Im stuck with it.

I use a spinning rod for light line drop shotting, but wanting a baitcasting setup for heavy line situations.

Any sugguestions appreciated!

Thanks

I would use a medium heavy with a fast tip.....but that what I would prefer. You should get what every you like, and work the bait best with.

I use an 8' custom M to ML rod for my drop shot and shaky head applications. It is like a 2.3 power rod and I love it because it has the fast tip and enough backbone to bring them up and set the hook, but my rod was built for it. Hope this helps.

Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Custom is going to be the best. I also have one of these dropshot tactical rods that I like from TFO.

Yea with that much weight I'd be using a MH rod with a fast or even an extra fast tip.

I use a M extra fast Cumara for weights in that range and Cara weightless worm for the lighter weight stuff.

I use a MH TFO Tactical for that application...... Though I've never felt the need for 1/2 ounce weights.....1/4 to 3/8 skinny tungsten on 14 lb sunline sniper.....owner offset 1/0 or 2/0

I currently use an Omen Black 7" Medium Fast. However, I stopped by Reel Time Rods at Pope's Landing this weekend, and he'll make you a killer dropshot bait caster!
