I used to have that problem as well. Id lose probably 25% of the jig fish I hooked to a head shake, or something else during the fight. I started using these and I stopped losing fish. That deep throat hook gets em in the top of the mouth 90% of the time, and I have to pop it out with the heel of my hand. I cant remember losing a fish on these jigs. I started fishing them exclusively over a year ago. You can find them here http://siebertoutdoors.com/Dredge-Brush-Mata-443.htm . Theyre a really great product at a decent price, and Mike Siebert is a really nice, easy guy to deal with. I have no affiliation with him, just like the stuff he makes. I do trim the weed guard back to the top of the hook bend, at an angle that makes it longer towards the hook. Good Luck! Siebert is top notch!

the best jigs bite come on the fall, you wont feel it, you have to watch your line bounce.

counting down is critical. if it takes 10 secs on the last dozen throws to hit bottom, set the hook on any count less.

Op for your specific description it sounds like you are just tearing it out sometimes- very heavy huge hook, heavy rod, heavy hookset, reeling them in as hard and fast as possible- no wonder!- sounds like a flippin type setup but you aren't flippin! Something has to give! I would use a smaller diameter hook on your jig to start with, and maybe a slip jig rig- I lose less jig fish this way but get the same jig type feel- also less hang ups. And even then you need more give somewhere-hook, line, rod, the way you are bringing it in, something! You are still gonna lose a fair amount night fishing no matter what you do-and you must be doing something right cause 10-20 per night is awesome. Btw, not to sound cynical but your post sounds like a sponsor set up.

so i really dialed in on a Black and Blue Jig bite while night fishing right now. I Using Hack attack jigs by strike king. we are talking 10-20 fish a night. this is my first year using Big Jigs like this. I using 7'6 heavy action Rod and 25lb Copolymer. I feel the bite. reel in my slack. MAKE SURE i feel the Weight of the Fish on my Rod and Then I try and Break the Rod with the hook set. I Mean theres no way you can set the hook any harder. I fight the fish. reeling him in as fast as possible. not giving him a chance to fight. and try and swing him in the boat, only for the fish to Come off while swinging him in the boat. I even smacked The wife in the Face with a 3 pounder trying to swing a fish in the boat. I HAVE EVEN LET THE FISH RUN WITH THE JIG FOR 3-4 SECONDS BEFORE I DO THE WORLDS HARDEST HOOK-SET. Still half the time it will come off while trying to land the fish. i even tried Just LEANING IN TO THE FISH! still the same thing happens and sometimes when i do swing the fish in the boat the jig will pop out and leave the fish flopping all over my carpet. I doing something wrong. please help. Thanks in advance! sorry for any Misspelling I m in a hurry. Video please, or it didn't happen.

I fish jigs a lot and hardly ever have a fish pull off. I agree with others that you could be possibly tearing too big a hole in the mouth of the fish and they pull off.
I use a 745 Dobyns Extreme rod with 20 pound test Invizx fluorocarbon line and 3 brands of jigs. MPack, Santone, and Viper. I set the hook with the jig the same way I do with a Tx. rig. No difference.
I also do not trim the weed guard on the Viper or the Santone. I fan them out some. The MPack jig has a unique single weed guard system.

If you are using braid then your gorilla hookset is the problem. You are tearing a huse cut in the fishes jaw if you are using braid because it has no stretch . Done it many times before myself before i quit using the braid. He never mentioned braid in his post. He said he uses 25 pound copolymer line.
