I have two fishfinders. The one in the front has no issues but the one in the back will not read 2D. My guess is because the depth is always wrong. I'll be in let's say about 11 feet of water and it will read 120ft deep or sometimes I'll be in like 20 feet of water and it marks the boat being in 3ft. I've checked the transducer and there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with it. Also, the my downscan, sidescan work perfectly. What can be the issue?

Have you tried restoring factory defaults to see if that corrects the problem?

Did you do the install?

Are you using a shoot-thru and Y cable along with the SI transducer?

No, I did not do the install. It worked originally when it was first installed. So I'm pretty sure it was installed correctly.

Quick question....is your 2D only not reading correctly when you are moving around with your big motor?

It doesn't matter if I'm moving or not. It won't read. Every once in a while it will start working for like 10 seconds and then hours of it not working.

You could easily have a pinched/severed wire somewhere. Find someone else that has a 998 or with the same connections and test the unit on their boat. If all works then you know its the transducer.

Ty,
my units does the exact same thing. the unit is used but the transducer is new out of the box. I have traced the cable from the unit to end of the ducer and there is not any cuts or bends in the cable. the imaging parts works great (SI and DI) but the 2D and depth does not...I was about to post the same question on this page but saw your post so I was hoping for an answer. I have restored factory defaults and all updates.

if you can't catch it, hunt it, or hump it....piss on it and walk away!

Had a similar issue. If your unit is in auto depth try changing it to manual depth and set it a little deeper than your actual depth. That seemed to solve my issue

Mine does the same thing. I assumed the second transducer was installed in a bad location. Disconnected it and just use the primary transducer and it works fine at slow speed. Your post makes me think something else is wrong.
