If your a lighter person it's a good kayak. I thought it was lighter than that though. The seat is nice but the one we had would slip out of place and was annoying. Other than that it was a good kayak.
The Old Town Vapor 10 is a nice kayak and within the same price range. Similar features and I think a lighter. The rear cargo area of the vapor will not fit a milk crate but being a sit inside you can carry your tackle inside the hull. Personally I like the vapor better. Academy carries the Vapor.

Thanks, I really wanted a sit on to use on the Lower Mountain Fork as it would be easier if I flip over in the fast water.

Take a look at the FS12T, you might like that a little better.

My brother-in-law owns the Ascend D10 sit on top. Its a nice kayak for the price. Fairly stable, wide, and with your weight would ride fairly high. It is NOT the nimblest kayak out there due to it's width and hull weight/shape. Also - make sure you get a long paddle for it... took my brother-in-law three trips and testing to get one that was long enough to be comfortable. I've paddled it a few times... for the price you pay it is nice. You have lots of space to place accessories and it has a fairly high load value. Take a look at the kayak thread they have stickied - it has a ton of good recommendations. In the end you decide what you can spend and get what will best meet your needs. Try and demo as much as possible if you can I personally own an Ocean Kayak frenzy that i decked out a bit to fish from and love it - it has it's limitations as well (much lower weight limit) and as one of the other guys mentioned you get a lot more when you jump up the next teir price point (the $800'ish). Good Luck!

Just received my Ascend FS12T Friday. The hull is all scratched up from prior usage. Obviously not new. The seat pin is bent also which has been a problem for over a year and hasn't been fixed.

Sorry to hear that about your FS12T, I picked mine up a few weeks ago and everything was fine, have had it out twice and no problems at all. I'd take it back and have them replace it.
